Hoopers

WHAT - Best described as a giant croquet course including other obstacles that the handler directs their dog around at a distance where possible. Classes consist of training behaviours such as getting our dogs to turn left and right with vocal commands and sometimes our body positioning. You can work your way through awards and also attend competitions if you wish.

WHERE - This sport can be indoor or outdoor and growing in popularity is now available at many venues around the UK. Local trainers can be located through varying organising bodies. See the how section.

WHY - A fun, and low impact sport this is great for building confidence, focus and independence in dogs of all ages and abilities. It also helps owners developing their dog handling experience and knowledge.

WHEN - Classes are usually weekly however many are now going online where you can simply practice in the garden with tutor support.

HOW - For more information and to find a local trainer there are a number of organisations including Canine Hoopers Uk / Canine Hoopers World / UK Hoopers

Equipment - This is a sport where you can build your skills at home with little or no equipment. The Canine Hoopers Uk Online Good Hoopers Awards are a good place to start with the entry level Bronze requiring no equipment at all.

When you progress and run courses you will encounter hoops, barrels, tunnels and TanGo mats. However much of this equipment can be improvised safely at home making this a good low cost sport for you and your dog.

For more information on the Online Awards click below and if you choose to sign up I will be happy to support you through the process so enter Tracy Parker as your trainer reference. Alternatively email me for more info about classes in your area.
